August 2026 release notes: Workflows get versioning, draft and other improvements

August was a Workflow month. But Workspaces got some action too.

Here's what shipped.

Save Workflows as Drafts, and access previous versions

You can now save a Workflow as a Draft, edit it freely, and Publish when it's ready. The editor also gives you the full version history, so you can open any past version and restore it if the latest one has regressed.

Deterministic 'Get Data' and 'Update Data' steps

Specify which Field from which Record you want to retrieve in a 'Get Data' or 'Update Data' step. That leaves nothing up to interpretation at runtime. The only remaining involvement from Forest's AI happens on 'Update Data' when set to 'AI-assisted', to suggest the new value.

'AI-assisted' and 'Full AI' modes on the 'Guidance Task' step

The 'Guidance Task' step now lets Forest's AI provide a text input mid-Workflow. For example, a summary of the Workflow execution so far, or a draft customer email based on the Workflow context. In 'AI-assisted' mode, the end user can change the AI's draft at runtime. In 'Full AI' mode, the step runs unattended.

Automated escalation step

The escalation step can now be automated to fire without a human trigger, so a Workflow can escalate itself.

Quality of life

Action quick search

It's now easier for your team to find the right action, especially if you have a lot. The Action picker now has a searchable dropdown. If you have a Collection with a long list of Actions, you'll notice this immediately.

Choose whether a record should automatically be selected in a workspace, and which one: 'If only one record', 'Always first record', or 'Never'.
